Eric Strzalkowski is the owner and Head Trainer of Overtime K9. With a lifelong passion for animals, especially dogs, Eric has dedicated his life to understanding, training, and building strong partnerships with them. What began as a love for dogs at home grew into a distinguished career as Head Trainer for the Broward Sheriff’s Office Patrol K9 Unit, and today continues as his personal mission through Overtime K9.
Eric began his law enforcement career in 2009 with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, where he set his sights on becoming a Patrol K9 Handler. Before earning that role in 2017, he served as a member of the Dive Rescue Team and as a Field Training Officer. Over the years, Eric has been recognized with the Life Saving Award, two Grand Cordon Awards, multiple Deputy of the Month honors, and numerous commendations from both his supervisors and community members.
Since joining the Patrol K9 Unit, Eric has partnered with two Belgian Malinois. He worked alongside Monty from 2017 to 2021 and now serves with his current partner, Mako, since 2021. As a K9 Handler, Eric has played a critical role in locating and apprehending countless criminals throughout Broward County. In 2024, after years of serving as an assistant trainer, he became the youngest Head Trainer in the history of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Patrol K9 Unit. His knowledge, dedication, and passion for canine behavior set him apart as a leader in the field.
Eric is certified through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as both a Canine Instructor and a Canine Team Evaluator. In addition to protecting the citizens of Broward County, he is responsible for the ongoing training of more than 20 active Patrol K9 Teams, as well as the instruction and certification of countless new handlers through their required 480 hour Patrol Canine School.
Dedicated to constant growth, Eric continues to advance his education in canine training and behavior. A graduate of the NePoPo Silver School, he believes there is always something new to learn, regardless of experience level. Eric’s commitment to expanding his knowledge ensures that the dogs he trains, and the handlers he mentors, receive the most effective and efficient training possible.
